More matthew questions

November 8, 2009

32″Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

34″Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
” ‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law -
36a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[e]

Why does Jesus come across as sounding so harsh when He is supposed to be the Prince of Peace, coming to this world to spread the love of God? Can’t He have put it in a more kind, less harsh way, but still as firm?

Questions when reading Matthew 8

November 4, 2009

21Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

22But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

i know pastor addressed this b4 but i forgot the answer.

2He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

After the demons went into the pigs, the pigs died shortly after. so the demons have to leave the bodies of the pigs again. then won’t they go and find other hosts? doesn’t that defeat the purpose.

9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Do Not Worry

October 25, 2009

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek ye first the kingdom of the Lord, and his righteousness, and all these things will be given unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:25-34

But does it mean that the more i am able to understand and grasp the depth and meaning of it, the worse I perform? If that is the case I feel like I’d rather return to ignorance and immaturity.
Or maybe I have just been naively thinking that I understand it all when I truly understand nothing.

beautiful lyrics

March 4, 2009

the lyrics are beautifully written. really strikes me about the wonder of His love for us. somehow tho i’ve sung this song in chinese in church.. it wasn’t as impactful as reading the english lyrics.

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin

Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade

To write the love of God above
Would drain the oceans dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song

beautiful poem

November 30, 2008

A beautiful and reflective poem by poet Ann Weems from today’s ODB:

Some of us walk into Advent
tethered to our unresolved yesterdays,
the pain still stabbing,
the hurt still throbbing.
It’s not that we don’t know better;
it’s just that we can’t stand up
anymore by ourselves.
On the way to Bethlehem,
will you give us a hand?

we all need to love more.

John 15:9-17 (New King James Version)

Love and Joy Perfected

9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

An Evening Prayer

October 12, 2008

I like the lyrics to this song but i think i’ve never blogged it anywhere. or if i have i probably forgot.

If I have wounded any soul today,

If i have caused one foot to go astray,

If I have walked in my own wilful way

Dear Lord, forgive!

If I have uttered idle words or vain,

If I have turned aside from want or pain,

Lest I offend some other thru the strain

Dear Lord, Forgive!

If I have been perverse, or hard, or cold,

If I have longed for shelter in the fold,

When Thou hast given me some fort yo hold,

Dear Lord, forgive!

Forgive the sins I have confessed to Thee;

Forgive the secret sins I do not see;

O guide me, love me and my keeper be

Amen, Amen.
